What is GMP in an IPO?
GMP stands for grey market premium. It is the amount over the issue price that dealers in India's unofficial grey market are quoting for an IPO's shares before it lists on NSE or BSE. If the issue price is ₹140 and the GMP is ₹22, the grey market is pricing the stock at roughly ₹162 on listing day — the "implied listing" column above.
Is the IPO grey market legal in India?
It is not illegal, but it is entirely unregulated. It runs on trust between dealers, outside the exchanges, with no clearing house, no settlement guarantee and no regulator. SEBI does not recognise grey market prices and has cautioned investors against relying on them. Nothing quoted here can be enforced anywhere.
How accurate is GMP at predicting listing gains?
It is a sentiment reading, not a forecast. GMP is set by a thin market with very few participants, it can be moved deliberately, and it often swings sharply in the final days before listing. Issues have listed well below a strong GMP and well above a flat one. Treat it as one weak signal among many, and read the prospectus.
How often is this updated?
